JAISS organized a talk by eminent Marxist thinker and writer Prof. Aijaz Ahmad on Latin American Left with a special focus on Venezuela. This meeting was kept in the context of landslide victory of Hugo Chavez in Venezuelan Elections. Venezuela, under the leadership of Chavez and in close collaboration with Cuba, rejuvenated the struggle for Socialism in Latin America. At the same time, the capitalist world, the imperialists of our time are afraid of growing popularity of this small country and its people.

Prof. Aijaz Ahmad gave a very good account of the historical development of the left in Venezuela which is non-traditional in many ways and trying to pave its own path. He also pointed out the new approach of left towards social movements in Latin America and their strength to counter the attack of US imperialism.
